Eco-School
At Gimnazija Tvrđava, in addition to regular classes, students have the opportunity to participate in various extracurricular activities and projects.
The knowledge they acquire influences the development of their personality, and therefore it is of great importance to us to nurture the right values, among which ecology and awareness of the importance of preserving planet Earth stand out.
How Do We Do it?
Given the high degree of digitalization in our school and electronic business administration, the use of paper has been reduced in the school, and thus a contribution is made to the preservation of trees.
Upon enrollment, each student receives a cloth bag and a water bottle – by discussing waste reduction, plastics, and recycling, we realize how important our daily decisions can be in preserving nature.
Within the regular classes in the Social-Linguistic stream, students can choose a subject. Sustainable development, within which they acquire new knowledge in this area, but also raise awareness of their role in ecological processes.
As part of this subject, visits are also organized to various associations and institutions that are decision-makers in the field of ecology in our country. Through project-based learning, students first learn about recycling processes, and then make their own contribution.
In this way, they actively get involved and develop healthy living habits.
In cooperation with the organization “Čepom do osmeha” (Cap for a Smile), a box is placed in the school where students
insert plastic caps, which are then taken to recycling centers. Considering that the box is
positioned in the hallway, which makes it constantly visible, students develop awareness of the harmfulness of plastic and the possibilities of its recycling.
Ecological activities also include trips to nature, learning about how we behave in nature, where and how we dispose of waste, learning about endangered species and planting trees, how each type of waste is recycled and returned to nature, circularity, zero-waste model, as well as discussions about air and water pollution, but also the impact of consumer society on the environment.
Entrepreneurship and Ecology
Since Gimnazija Tvrđava focuses, among other things, on developing entrepreneurial skills, our students participate every year in competitions organized by Junior Achievement – Business Challenge and Special Challenge, in which they work on developing green eco ideas.
The aim of this competition is to introduce students to the world of entrepreneurship and all its factors, but at the same time to develop awareness of the importance of the environment and its preservation.
